Shefqet Avdush Emini In 2011 Embassy of Kosovo in Den Hague. It was an innovating challenge for the embassy in Den Hague to promote Kosovo’ identity as newest country in Europe .

Amsterdam, November 2011, Ina Eskes MA of Art history
Shefqet Avdush Emini
Shefqet Avdush Emini, an international recognized artist, is born in Davidovc in Kosovo on 2 June 1957. He studied Visual Arts as a young man at the Art Academy in Pristina (Kosovo) and worked, after finishing his education, as an artist and art teacher in several towns in Kosovo. Since two decennia, when war broke out in Kosovo, Shefqet Avdush Emini is living in the Netherlands, together with his family. As an artist and art teacher he is able to live and work all over the world, though he always will be connected with his roots to Kosovo. In several works of his hand you will be able to discover these roots and his mixed feelings of living abroad. Shefqet Avdush Emini is an academically educated artist who developed his own style, his own ‘signature’, which made him famous. The list of exhibitions of his artworks in museums and art galleries worldwide is long. Besides, he is regular invited to join art symposia where local and international artist do come together to create art and get inspired. Shefqet is also connected to the Filarski Academy, a private Academy in The Netherlands founded by the artist Marian Filarski, as a teacher for master classes in painting.
In 2011 Shefqet Avdush Emini has been asked to
present his artworks (paintings and sculptures) in two separate
solo-exhibitions in the Netherlands, the first one took place in Amsterdam, the
second one in Den Hague. These two exhibitions will be presented in this
review.
Exhibition paintings
and sculptures at gallery Diversity & Art, Amsterdam

2 September 2011- 1 October 2011
Gallery Diversity & Art, an intimate gallery
located in the old heart of Amsterdam, is founded by Liesbeth Schreve-Brinkman,
after a meeting with AIDA the Netherlands, an organization which does advise
artists after they did leave or escape their countries for reasons like war,
politic, or censure. Diversity & Art gives these artists an exhibition
platform. The selection of artists takes place in cooperating with AIDA the
Netherlands. Diversity & Art gives excess to all kind of genres of artists
with their own cultural background. The mission of Art & Diversity is to
show and share these artworks to public, to increase our idea of art in
cultural diversity.
From the 2nd of September till the 1ste of
October paintings and sculptures made of baked bronze varnish clay of Shefqet
Avdush Emini have been presented for public. This exhibition was officially
opened by René Mendel, director of Interact; a Film Production Company for
television and multimedia. As a filmmaker of a television program of
‘portraits’ of artists René Mendel pointed out the influence of the public
opinion by media, and how appreciation for artists can be achieved. Art itself
can influence a person as well of course, at several levels. Diversity & Art wants to make visual,
mental and social contact possible between artist, art and public, to achieve a
better intercultural understanding of art. Shefqet’ artwork is about people.
You can ask yourself for example: who are these people? Are they friends, family, anomies, or
memories of people of the past, of Kosovo? And what is going on in their minds?

Solo-exhibition in
the Atrium of the city hall of Den Hague, organized by the embassy of Kosovo in
Den Hague

1 novembre-12 November 2011
The solo-exhibition in the Atrium of the city hall of
Den Hague, a building which was designed by the American architect Richard
Meier, with an atrium of 4500 square feet, was a great opportunity for Shefqet
Avdush Emini to present his work. Lots of people do walk in and out, from
Mondays till Saturdays, for work or private reasons. The exhibition took place
in close cooperation with the embassy of Kosovo in Den Hague. It was an
innovating challenge for the embassy in Den Hague to promote Kosovo’ identity
as newest country in Europe by showing Shefqet Avdush Emini artworks, their
excellent artist from Kosovo, living and working in the Netherlands.

The official
opening of the exhibition took place at the 4the of November 2011, which was a
successfully event. Most people who have seen the exhibition mentioned the
paintings as: very beautiful and very interesting and one person mentioned that
it is unbelievable that such a great artist is coming from such a small
country.

His Art
Shefqet Avdush Emini is an all-round artist who
creates baked bronze varnish clay sculptures, drawings and last but not least
paintings. In both exhibitions there have been presented several paintings of
his hand. Having a look at these paintings means to make a mental journey on
many levels. His style of painting, the compositions he makes, the way he is
using colors in combination with his compositions, the way is using paint
itself as a material (oil on canvas, acryl on canvas), and the stories he want
to tell. His painted portraits and figures do often not have titles, which mean
that Shefqet gives you a change to make up your own thoughts and feelings. It
also gives you an opportunity to travel away in time or place. Sometimes his
work might remind you to one of the famous girls of the Dutch master Vermeer,
to Mozart, to people in pain, or grieve, people coming from Kosovo, coming from
wherever? All kind of moods do come
along your eyes and thoughts. His paintings are multi-interpretable. Like they
want to tell you something about the past and the present. Besides this you can
notice Shefqet’ energy while painting, using his paintbrush as a medium for his
own inner world. He is a painter with flair, which can be interpreted as
(abstract) expressionism, and gives in combination with his classical touch a
very interesting and lively result. You can also notice Shefqet’ knowledge of
the Dutch masters like Rembrandt, Vermeer, Van Gogh and the Cobra group, like
Corneille for example. In Shefqet ’art is a colorful world of people, roots,
moods, tradition, and life coming together.

Special Programs

New Collectors Night  - Friday, November 18 at 6:30pm

Panel:  Art Collecting: A Passion, An Investment, or Both?

Is art a luxury brand, as sensitive to the stock markets as high-end fashion?  Or does it represent a safe investment in troubled times, much like gold?  Why are some markets, such as African American art, exploding, while others, such as Barbizon, appear to be on the wane?  When buying art, what comes first, passion or portfolio?  What are the trust and estate issues of art as an asset?   Join our panel of experts including Christopher D. Perry, Senior Vice President and Senior Fiduciary Officer, Northern Trust; Lou Salerno, Questroyal Gallery; and Julie Sherlock, Assistant Vice President, ACE Private Risk Services. Presented by ARIS Title Insurance Corporation, New York, the industry’s leading authority on managing the market ownership or legal title risks when passion-investing in art and other important collectibles, and  moderated by Lawrence M. Shindell, Chairman of ARIS.

Panel: Shaping The Present: Realist Art Then And Now

For years, people have been saying realist art is coming back.  Judging from its growing visibility and the mushrooming of realist art schools nationwide, it’s more accurate to say it’s here.  How are top contemporary realist artists inspired or informed by their historical counterparts?  Is it wise to collect today’s realist artists when many museums and critics are reluctant to highlight them?  Join us for this intriguing panel, animated by two national editors and popular BIFAS presenters:  Joshua Rose of American Art Collector and Peter Trippi of Fine Art Connoisseur.

The only show of its kind in New England, BIFAS features 40 galleries from the United States and Europe, with no restrictions on the type of work that may be shown.  Works on offer range from fine original prints priced at just a few hundred dollars to museum-quality masterpiece paintings priced at more than million.  Last year, over 3,000 people attended the show, which saw very strong sales.

The Cyclorama provides the ideal venue for this exciting show.  A large circular rotunda and adjacent salons encourage visitors to both linger and wander.  The historic structure is located in the heart of the BCA complex, which boasts four theatres, a gallery, the Boston Ballet School, 50 artist studios and other facilities.  There are more than a dozen “hot” restaurants and nightspots within a five-minute walk, making it a focal point for cultural life in the city.

“The show has grown up with the evolution of the Boston Center for the Arts, the art market in Boston and the changing demographics of the South End, Back Bay, Downtown and other neighborhoods of Boston,” comments co-producer Tony Fusco.  “We couldn’t be more pleased to be launching our 15th year.”

Fusco & Four/Ventures also produces AD 20/21: Art & Design of the 20th & 21st Centuries, slated for March 15-18, 2012, and The Ellis Boston Antiques Show which re-launched in October 2011. For more information about all three shows produced by Fusco & Four/Ventures visit www.BostonArtFairs.com.

Charmy’s July 2011 Ontario Show Report with Pics!

Posted by Admin - August 30th, 2011

This report will be short and (hopefully) sweet! In my opinion, the Ontario show is an up and coming show, with great potential, but is not quite there yet. Possibly, it’s due to it being held in the middle of summer and folks seem to not be as into coin shows as they are in the spring and fall. As I mentioned before, it’s a really great location! Everyone who comes to the show says how easy it is to get to the show, how open and roomy the tables and aisles are. A couple comments include, of course, the parking fee and that the tables don’t show actual table numbers. Other than that, it is a very comfortable and easy show to attend.

Thursday was set up from 9-noon, then the show opened to the public at noon (earlier than last year’s 2pm). It seemed

Jan Foulke’s Guide to Dolls 2011 edition now available for purchase online

Posted by Admin - August 15th, 2011

LANCASTER, Pa. – Beautifully designed and richly illustrated, the 2011 edition of Jan Foulke’s Guide to Dolls is now available for purchase through Synapse Publishing’s website or amazon.com. Nearly 300 pages in length, this immaculately organized full-color reference is an indispensable resource for any level of doll buyer, seller or collector.

Written by the most trusted authority on antique and vintage dolls, Jan Foulke, the book includes reliable, up-to-the-minute market values on more than 2,000 antique, vintage and modern collectible dolls. More than 600 dolls – many of them from premier private collections – are shown in full-color photographs.

Main doll classifications are broken down into subcategories arranged alphabetically by manufacturer. Doll productions from each of the makers are further sorted by doll type, size and/or model number.

Foulke added an introductory section to each doll factory or studio category, providing a thumbnail history, basic description of the manufacturing technique, and additional tidbits of information, such as cautions about reproductions.

A detailed main index enables the user to look up virtually any doll by name, and it is followed by a second index that helps identify dolls by numbers incised into the molds from which they were created. Foulke didn’t stop there; she also included a glossary of terms to help beginners and non-doll specialists with trade terminology, such as “paperweight eyes,” “gusset joint” or “mignonnette.”

With nearly 40 years of experience in the doll business, Foulke relishes the opportunity to share her knowledge and does so with an extensive section on how to assess quality, condition, clothing and originality. It is followed by a detailed narrative packed with tips on buying and selling dolls, including at auction. Throughout, these tutorials are written in a clear and conversational style with no filler.

Jan Foulke’s Guide to Dolls 2011 softcover edition is quite likely the only book any doll enthusiast requires for doll identification and accurate market values. The book is available to purchase online for .95 through Synapse Publishing’s dedicated web page www.jansdollbook.com or amazon.com.

Brimfield 2011

Posted by Admin - June 2nd, 2011

 img_7210.jpg

Finally, I have had a small breather so that I can post some pictures of our booth at Brimfield.

First off I wanted to thank all of our fantastic customers who came out to see us! You guys are the ones that make it worth it to do the show! We also got to meet so many new people and were flooded with so many nice comments on our booth display and the antiques we had.

Half of the  fun and challenge of Brimfield for Amy and I is to continuously come up with new ideas for creative displays. The advantage  and fun to working with Amy is our styles always complement each other. We always say to each other as we are uncovering our treasures it’s like Christmas as we unwrap and show each other what we have been collecting prior to the show. We always want to buy each others things for our own homes! All in all it was a great show, so lets get to the pictures and let them speak for themselves. Here goes………
