VERY GOOD

In overall very good condition. Antique and vintage items by their very nature show normal wear to finish and miscellaneous scratches, nicks, and dings due to age and use. As we define ‘very good condition’ relative to the stated age of the piece, we would expect to see ‘character marks’ consistent with that age and could include minor nicks or dings on a piece of furniture, normal separation at joints in wood due to expansion and contraction over time, all locks functioning, and all drawers and doors open or slide easily. If there has been a break in the marble, it has been so expertly repaired that it is difficult to tell. If some of the original trim has been replaced or minor restoration has been performed, it has been so expertly done that it is difficult to tell. Upholstered items may show wear consistent with age and use. EuroLux Antiques makes no representation regarding the comfort of chairs or useability for the customer’s particular application.

STICKLEY AND MISSION STYLE

Gustav Stickley of the American Craftsman Furniture Company, was greatly influenced by the principles and designs of the English Arts and Crafts movement and by the simplicity and utilitarian emphasis of the Shakers. However, rather than shunning the use of machinery, he embraced the use of machines as a way to help the worker avoid drudgery. Hallmarks of the Craftsman, or Mission style, are simple straight lines without ornamentation and a revealing of the structural elements of the piece. Stickley not only produced furniture, but also designed homes, had his own retail store with accessories for the home and even published magazines on how to live, decorate and entertain. Other furniture producers followed in Stickley’s footsteps and these pieces are often called Mission style furniture, as being reminiscent of pieces from Spanish colonial churches with block shapes and jointed construction.
